Giving Back to the Reef Our Volunteer Efforts with ISER Caribe
At Snorkeling Puerto Rico, our mission goes beyond showcasing the underwater beauty of our island,we’re deeply committed to protecting and preserving the marine ecosystems we rely on. One of the most meaningful ways we’ve been able to contribute is through our collaboration with ISER Caribe, a leading marine conservation organization based right here in Puerto Rico. Working hand-in-hand on a variety of marine restoration and education projects. This partnership allows us to make a tangible difference in the health of our local reefs and inspire both our guests and our team to be stewards of the ocean.
Restoring Our Reefs
One of our key contributions has been in coral outplanting efforts. These projects involve planting nursery-grown corals onto degraded reef sites to help regenerate reef structure and biodiversity. Every coral fragment outplanted helps bring the reef back to life, providing habitat for fish, protecting the coastline, and maintaining the beauty of our snorkeling sites for future generations.
Sea Urchin Collections: Natural Reef Cleaners
Another hands-on activity we’ve contributed to is the collection and cultivation of sea urchins at ISER Caribe’s nursery. These creatures are essential to reef health. Grazing on algae that can otherwise smother corals. By helping increase sea urchin populations, we’re supporting a more balanced and resilient reef ecosystem.
